Cherri’s Sloppy Joes Recipe

My mom’s version of a classic American dinner, Cherri’s Sloppy Joes Recipe is a little different than the classic Manwich sandwich. Now say that three times fast!

Step 1

In a large skillet, brown the ground beef, garlic salt, and garlic powder in oil, being sure to break it up. Once the beef is browned, add the bell peppers and onions and cook until the onions are soft. Add the Chili Sauce and Ketchup. Mix well and cook until hot and bubbly. Serve on a bun.

I haven’t made this recipe in probably 15 years and it was never written down in our family cookbook. It was one of those ‘too easy’ recipes that my mom never wrote it down. It is a quick and easy recipe for a summer dinner that could serve a crowd.

My guess is that my mom needed to make some hamburger stretch so she added the bell peppers and onions. Or maybe she got the recipe off the back of a ketchup or chili sauce bottle. When I asked my siblings what they thought was in the recipe, they were all different. Just another example of a family recipe that would have been much better if my mom was still with us to just make it in front of us. But, I think I was able to recreate it. Honestly, though, I do not think my mom used any garlic salt or garlic powder, that’s my own addition.

So, if you want a quick and easy weeknight meal, this is the meal for you. Enjoy!
