Ingredients
Layer 1
- 1 1/2 cup Flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 cup Butter
- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1 teaspoon Cherry Bourbon
- 1 cup Sharffen Berger 62% Semisweet Chunks
- 1/2 cup Dried Cherries (chopped coarsly)
Layer 2
- 1/2 cup Boiling Water
- 1/2 cup Sharffen Berger Natural Cocoa Powder
- 1/2 cup Flour
- 1/8 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 cup Butter
- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 Egg Yolks
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1/3 cup Cherry Bourbon
- 1/2 cup Dried Cherries (chopped coarsly)
- 2 Egg Whites
- 1 tablespoon Sugar
Note
Variation: In the second layer, rehydrate the dried cherries with 1/2 cup of cherry bourbon 2 hours in advance. Drain and chop and use in place of the dried cherries in layer 2.
Can also be served warm with a scoop of ice cream on top.
