No, this is not made with Lipton onion soup mix. This French Onion Dip Recipe is made with fresh onions and is so good you’ll never make it from the box again (well, unless you are out of onions). Perfect for parties when served with potato chips or veggies.

No, this is not made with Lipton onion soup mix. This French Onion Dip Recipe is made with fresh onions and is so good you'll never make it from the box again (well, unless you are out of onions). Perfect for parties when served with potato chips or veggies.
Ingredients
- 3 cups Yellow Onions (sliced thin)
- 1/2 tablespoon Olive Oil
- 2-4 tablespoons Water
- Salt (a couple dashes to taste)
- Pepper (a couple dashes to taste)
- 1 pint Sour Cream
- 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
- 1.5 teaspoons Beau Monde Seasoning
Optional
- 1/2 cup Green Onions (chopped)
- 1/2 cup Fresh Cilantro (chopped or 1 Tbl Cilantro Paste)
Directions
Step 1 | |
Heat oil in large sauté pan. Add onions and sauté until starting to get light brown in color. Add a little water once or twice to the onions to make them caramelize. Onions will take about 4-6 minutes to caramelize. Remove from heat and add chopped green onions to pan and mix with cooked onions. Let cool (about 15 minutes). | |
Step 2 | |
In large bowl, combine all remaining ingredients together: cilantro, sour cream, mayonnaise, and beau monde seasoning. Mix in onion mixture. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving. |
